Two shipping containers loaded with shelves, mobile cabinets, textbooks and books on general culture have just arrived in Haiti.

Despite the difficulty of the current situation in Port-au-Prince, the Director of the National Library, Françoise Thybulle has managed to have both containers transported from the port of Port-au-Prince to the National Library.

Given the complexities of sending a outside specialist for installation of the equipment at this time of crisis, Françoise Thybulle has located a Haitian engineer who will take care of installing shelves and mobile shelves, courtesy of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). His transportation costs have been generously provided for by Libraries Without Borders (BSF).

School books offered by the Department of Public Education of the State of Geneva and the libraries of Bière and Bulle, Switzerland are now waiting in the National Library of Haiti for the arrival of a training mission for school librarians in early 2011.

Congratulations to our Haitian colleagues who, despite the extreme difficulty of the situation in which they are immersed, continue to fight for the reconstruction of access to knowledge and culture for all.
