IFLA Library Theory and Research Section – Action Plan 2015 - 2017 The IFLA Library Theory and Research Section’s objectives are to:
- Promote sound research methodology and evidence based practice in library and information Science;
- Promote reflection and discussion internationally on the theoretical bases of Library and Information Science
- Provide methodological expertise and support for selected projects closely aligned to IFLA's Strategic Directions;
- Stimulate discussion and debate about theory and research in relation to activities that contribute to IFLA's Strategic Directions; and
- Disseminate the Library Theory and Research Section’s programs and satellite conferences through open access journal and book publications.
The Section’s Action Plan is underpinned by its objectives, within the framework of IFLA’s Strategic Plan and Key Initiatives. The Standing Committee members are listed at the end of this document. A Communication Plan lays out the activities, intended audiences and responsibilities for promoting the Actions below. - Investigate the Annual Review of Cultural Heritage Informatics (ARCHI) as a potential journal to publish papers from the 2014 Open Session and Satellite

- To tie the 2016 Satellite theme more closely to “A sustainable information environment”? – For example, “We will build a set of resources to inform our policy work on access to information, data and knowledge.” It is possible, by working with the Statistics and Evaluation section, we might be able to include evaluating the impact of advocacy activities in the call for papers.
- 2. The IFLA KI “we will measure the progress of access to information and its impact on the Sustainable Development Goals” is an opportunity for the LTR Section to be involved – but how?
- 3. Organise a satellite for 2017 relating to the use of multiple languages in our profession, e.g.: (1) For IFLA, how can we be less anglophone and Anglo-American in our thinking? (2) How do IFLA delegates who are not English-speaking experience the WLIC? (3) Is the predominance of English in scholarly literature (generally and in LIS more specifically) increasing? (4) How does this affect libraries in non-English speaking countries? (5) what is the current state of the art in machine translation and is this relevant to libraries?
